John Guest elbow for metal tube or coil

90° connector for transitioning between a 3/8" flexible tube line and a metal tube or coil outlet. It allows you to change the direction of the installation in a confined space and makes for a neat assembly in beverage dispensing systems.

Available variants

  • 3/8" Tube – 5/16" Metal Tube — SKU IB0195.
  • 3/8" Tube – 1/4" Metal Tube — SKU IB0194.

What is it used for?

It is designed for installations where it is necessary to connect 3/8" flexible tubing to a metal coil outlet or a compatible metal tube section, while at the same time making a 90° turn. It is especially useful in chillers, beverage circuits, and setups where the available space does not allow for a straight connection.

How to choose the variant

Select the variant according to the actual outside diameter of the metal tube or coil outlet. Both configurations connect to 3/8" flexible tubing, but the side intended for the metal tube changes between 5/16" and 1/4". You should not choose based only on how the tube looks: check the size before assembly.

Compatibility and applications

  • Professional beverage dispensing installations.
  • Connection between 3/8" flexible tubing and compatible metal tubing.
  • Coil outlets and connections whose size matches the selected variant.
  • Compact setups that require a 90° change of direction.

Final compatibility depends on the outside diameter and the type of end on the component you want to connect. If there is any doubt between 1/4" and 5/16", it is advisable to measure the connection before placing the order.

Installation

  1. Fully depressurize the system before working on it.
  2. Check that the dimensions on both sides match the selected variant.
  3. Prepare the tube with a clean, square cut where applicable.
  4. Insert each connection fully into its correct position, without forcing it or inserting it at an angle.
  5. Check the mechanical retention and perform a leak test before putting the circuit into service.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

Periodically check the connection as part of the system’s general maintenance. If a leak appears, do not try to compensate by overtightening the fitting: depressurize the circuit and check the size, the condition of the tube, the insertion depth, and any possible damage or deformation on the mating surface. Replace any damaged component.

Frequently asked questions

Do both variants connect to 3/8" flexible tubing?

Yes. The difference between the current variants lies in the size of the side intended for the metal tube: 5/16" or 1/4".

Can it be used to connect a coil directly?

It can be used with a coil outlet or metal tube as long as its diameter and end configuration are compatible with the selected variant.

Can I use the 5/16" variant on a 1/4" metal tube?

You should not assume that both sizes are interchangeable. Select the variant that matches the actual size of the connection.

What advantage does it have over a straight union?

It integrates the 90° change of direction into the fitting itself, which allows you to handle tight layouts and avoid unnecessary bends in the flexible tubing.

What should I check if the connection is leaking?

First depressurize the system and check that the size is correct, that the mating surfaces are in good condition, and that the assembly has been carried out properly. Do not use a damaged fitting.
