Why John Guest® fits beverage dispensing so well

John Guest® is a benchmark in push-fit connections thanks to its fast assembly, clean circuits and ease of maintenance and section replacement. In beverage dispensing, that translates into less installation time, fewer problem points and more repeatable operation when the system is properly sized.

  • Fast, tidy assembly
  • Faster, more consistent maintenance
  • Compatibility with many drink and water configurations
  • Very useful for standardising spare parts in service companies, horeca and multi-site operations

John Guest® families most commonly used in dispensing

The most practical way to buy John Guest is not to think only in terms of “a fitting”, but in terms of the solution family that solves your installation point.

Straight connectors and splices

To extend or repair sections while keeping the same tube size and a clean line.

Elbows and changes of direction

Very useful where space is tight or it’s important to better organize the bend radius and avoid stress.

Tees, splitters and reducers

To branch off lines, split circuits, or change diameter with technical criteria.

Thread adapters

Transition from tube to BSP, NPT, MFL, FFL or other common threads in couplers, pumps, regulators and equipment.

Converters and metric/inch transition

Key parts for mixed installations or migrations from older systems without improvising equivalents.

Safety and mounting accessories

Closing clips, tube cutters, fasteners, and accessories that prevent many installation and maintenance problems.

How to choose the right John Guest® reference

1) Measure the tube

  • 3/8”, 5/16”, 1/4”, 1/2”
  • Or real metric equivalent
  • Confirm outer diameter
  • Don’t mix “similar” sizes

2) Define the function

  • Straight connector
  • Elbow
  • T or splitter
  • Thread / valve / cap adapter

3) Check the mounting point

  • Available space
  • Vibration and pulling
  • Accessibility for maintenance
  • Need for clip or fastening

4) Think about the circuit

  • Drink, water, or gas
  • Pressure and environment
  • Disassembly frequency
  • Standardisation of spare parts

Rule of thumb: the correct reference comes from combining tube + thread + function + application. When any one of those four data points is missing, the risk of error increases a lot.

Quick comparison: which part to look at for your specific need

This table does not replace technical validation, but it helps you focus your purchase much better.

Need Part family What you must check Typical mistake
Join two identical sections Straight union / double union Exact outside diameter of the tube and the circuit environment Mixing imperial and metric “because it looks the same”
Change direction without forcing the tube Elbow / swept elbow / swivel elbow Available space, bend radius and stress on the part Over-bending the tube and stressing the connection
Branching or splitting a line Equal T / splitter / reducer Circuit order, diameters and accessibility Choosing the right main body but the wrong size for one of the branches
Going from tube to equipment thread BSP / NPT / MFL / FFL adapter Thread type, sealing and the actual direction of the connection Mixing up BSP with NPT or male with female
Switching from metric to imperial Converter / expander / transition Exact size of both ends Forcing equivalences and creating micro-leaks
Secure against pulling or vibration Closing / fastening / organizing clip If the point is subject to handling, tension, or frequent maintenance Not adding safety at sensitive points
Cut and rebuild a line correctly Tube cutters and assembly tools Clean 90° cut with no deformation Cutting with the wrong tool and damaging the tube

John Guest® by application and sector

Not all installations require the same things. The logic changes quite a lot depending on drink, pressure, accessibility and maintenance pace.

Beer

Very common in lines between coupler, cooler, tower and tap. Tube size, coupler thread and leak-tightness are all very important.

  • Very common: 3/8”
  • Pay attention to BSP threads and coupler accessories
  • Key for maintenance and expansions

Post-mix and soft drinks

Circuits with more branches, internal organisation and the need for agile, repeatable maintenance.

  • Line order
  • Compatibility in branch lines
  • Very useful for quick replacement

Filtered water and dispensers

Clean, compact and accessible setups for filters, dispensers, offices and hospitality.

  • Shut-off valve and adapters
  • Easy access for maintenance
  • A good option for organizing the circuit

Vending and coffee

Compact spaces where bend radius, access, and ease of cleaning the installation are critical.

  • Compact installation
  • Repeatable disassembly
  • Less intervention time

Wine, vermouth, kombucha, and cellar

Each drink requires validating materials, pressure, cleaning and serving method. Here it’s important to lock in compatibilities very carefully.

  • Validation by beverage
  • Attention to cleaning and maintenance
  • Technical room and line organisation

Industry and technical room

Where standardization adds the most value: less improvisation, fewer stoppages and faster replacement parts.

  • Standardize measurements
  • Prepare critical spare parts
  • Make service and maintenance easier

The 5 mistakes that cause the most leaks and rework

1) Mixing metric and imperial

They look equivalent, but they’re not. It’s one of the most expensive mistakes in push-fit.

2) Confusing BSP and NPT

The wrong thread can be “half-fitted” and end up causing micro-leaks or damage.

3) Cutting the tube poorly

An angled, crushed or burred cut will cause problems even with a new part.

4) Do not insert all the way in

Many leak issues come from incomplete insertion, not from the fitting itself.

5) Leaving mechanical tension

When the tube pulls on the fitting, the installation becomes more sensitive to vibrations and handling.

Practical tip

If you’re unsure, send us the exact size + thread + photo. That’s where prior validation adds the most value.

John Guest® FAQs: compatibility, leaks, threads and sizes

Are you official John Guest® distributors in Spain?
Yes. At Install Beer we work with John Guest® in Spain and supply both end customers and professionals, with support for selection and compatibility.
What information do you need to recommend the correct reference?
Ideally we should receive outer tube diameter, if the measurement is metric or imperial, thread type if available, application and a Photo of the connection point.
Are 3/8" and 9.5 mm always equivalent?
You shouldn’t assume it. With push-fit, mixing “almost the same” sizes is a very common source of leaks and insertion problems. You must always confirm the tube’s actual specification.
Are BSP and NPT compatible?
They should not be treated as equivalent. Choosing the right adapter prevents micro-leaks, unsafe assemblies and damage to the equipment threads.
Why do I have leaks even though the fitting is new?
The most common causes are poor cut, deformed tube, incomplete insertion, wrong size or mechanical stress on the connection.
What tool do you recommend for cutting the tube?
The safest option is to use proper tube cutter to achieve a clean 90° cut without crushing or marking the tube.
When is it advisable to use a locking clip?
Highly recommended at points exposed to handling, vibration, tension or frequent maintenance, where it provides extra safety.
Is John Guest only for beer?
No. It’s also used in filtered water, post-mix, vending, coffee and other installations, always verifying the materials and requirements of each circuit.
Can I buy a single unit or also in volume?
Yes. We handle both one-off purchases and professional B2B purchasing with recurring or project-based needs.
What if I can’t find my reference in the collection?
If you have the code or a clear description, ask us. We can check availability or feasibility as a special order depending on the reference.
Do you only sell hardware or do you also help with installation?
In addition to supplying hardware, we can advise on compatibility, kits, reference selection, and installation and maintenance criteria.
What should I do if I have an urgent leak or incident?
Send us the size, thread and a photo of the point. If it’s an operational emergency, tell us the context so we can better prioritize the replacement or repair proposal.

We help you choose (fast response)

Send us these details and we’ll recommend compatible parts: 1) tube size, 2) equipment or circuit, 3) thread if applicable, 4) photo of the point.

Tip: if the issue is a leak or a compatibility problem during maintenance, tell us the current reference or attach a photo of the removed part.
