What is craft beer?

In recent times, the term craft beer has become fashionable. Thousands of people have started brewing beer using traditional methods in small breweries or at home. But what exactly is craft beer? Here we’ll try to explain exactly what craft beer is and how it’s produced, along with a short guide on how it should be served correctly.

What do I need to brew my own craft beer?

The first thing you’ll need is plenty of patience, and then the basic products for brewing: water, barley malt, hops and finally yeast. The second thing you’ll need is a large container, a pot where you can work with the ingredients that will form the base of our brew. The first step is to malt the barley in the pot we’re going to use, by germinating the grains. Once we’ve malted the barley, we mix it with hot water until we get a thick, sweet liquid. Hops are then added to this liquid while it boils, after which we filter all the contents and start cooling it as quickly as possible down to 20 degrees. The next step is to add the yeast, which we must have prepared in water from the day before. We then ferment everything in a single, previously disinfected vessel, and this is where the sugar in the mixture turns into beer, our own craft beer. We cover the brew and store it in a dry, dark place for a week until it is ready. You’re now a true brewmaster. Best way to serve the beer.

There have been many debates over time about the best way to serve beer. The real trick lies in the beer itself, in how it has been dispensed. The best approach is undoubtedly to pour the flow of beer down one side of the glass, allowing the beer to open up, and serve it with two fingers of foam to prevent it from going flat. Beer should never be served at less than 4 degrees Celsius, as it would lose all its flavor, and each beer should be associated with its own type of glass, knowing which one best suits each style of craft beer.
