Beer recipe: The most refreshing beer styles for summer
Beer sales rise in summer. Temperature has a direct impact on our beer consumption, but what kind of beer do we drink in summer? Without a doubt, in our favorite drink we look for a refreshing way to stay hydrated in the face of harsh weather. Of course, we rule out dark, high-alcohol beers, which are more suited to winter. Even if you’re an Imperial Stout fanatic, here are the best beer styles to enjoy in summer.

- Berliner Weisse: from Berlin comes one of the most refreshing styles. Berliner Weisse beers are wheat beers characterized by their straw-like appearance, effervescence and notable lactic acidity. Their low alcohol content, under 4%, makes them ideal for the warmer months.
- Fruit Beer: these are the typical beers with red fruits, cherries, plums, or flat peaches, among other possibilities. They combine our favorite drink, in different styles, with the refreshing power of juice.
- Gose: in a Gose we find a light-bodied beer with pronounced acidity and a salty touch. It also belongs to the German tradition.
- Munich Helles: this is the typical pale lager you’ll find in German beer halls. It’s balanced, pleasant, and refreshing. A summer staple.
- Pilsner: from the Czech Republic comes the best-known crystal-clear lager. It is light and easy to drink, with a great balance between Saaz hops and pale malts.

- Radler: born in Germany, this beer with lemon juice originated as a drink for cyclists. Hence the name. It consists of adding lemon juice to a lager. You can buy it pre-packaged or make it yourself at home. Its refreshing power combined with the low alcohol content won’t leave you indifferent.
- Session IPA: it concentrates all the hoppy character of an IPA without such pronounced bitterness and with low alcohol content. That’s a session IPA: a beer with intense hop aroma, a light body and an unparalleled fruity character. It’s a style designed for those who don’t want to consume large amounts of alcohol without giving up hops.
- Alcohol‑free and 0.0: alcohol‑free beers (less than 1% ABV) and 0.0 (less than 0.1% ABV) are also ideal for cooling off on summer days without suffering the effects of alcohol. More and more brands are choosing to produce this type of beer with higher quality.
- Sour: means acidic. Closer in sharpness to vinegar than to yogurt, they have become very popular on the American scene. They are more tart than other sour beers due to the inclusion of wild yeasts.
